I am Yu Jing. People often say that the Age of Nine Purple Fire is a time of female awakening. To me, a woman’s awakening begins with a true understanding of herself: Making peace with her family of origin, wholly accepting her real and imperfect self, and lighting a lamp within her heart as she walks alone through the night. When appearance, body, age, and wealth can no longer define you— that is when your life truly begins. The words of those who came before us form a spiritual home for those who follow.
